When I recruit, I network. I reach out to people all day. My network is twelve thousand connections plus. When I post a role, I hope for that perfect candidate to reach back.
I sometimes want to ignore those that do not fit my search. But I realize that no response is a response.
And I get A LOT that reach back!
I get new graduates looking to enter the market…I get newcomers to Toronto or Canada looking for a new start…
I get Moms looking to re-enter the workforce…I get people who have lost their job and are looking for help…
I get connections looking for me to support their friends, colleagues or sometimes family…
Most days my inboxes are exploding!
I sometimes want to ignore those that do not fit my search. But I realize that no response is a response.
So I take a moment and pause…And in that pause is a world of kindness and empathy.
I remember how I felt moving to Toronto and trying to find a job — Anxious
I remember how I felt to be downsized and try to find a new job — Worthless
I remember how I felt as a single mom trying to start my business — Alone
And I remember that my connections that have caused my success — Gratitude
It is from that place of Gratitude that I respond....With compassion
Even if it is to say “ I hear you but I cannot help you”
I try to respond to as many people as I can.
But I am sure some reading this have not heard from me.
I am no longer stressed over too much mail.
Instead, I am grateful that I am seen as someone who might help.
I make the time, I pay attention and I do the best I can
and that is enough….
